I used to think the whole purpose of life was pursuing happiness. Everyone said the path to happiness was success, so I searched for that ideal job, that perfect boyfriend, that beautiful apartment. But instead of ever feeling fulfilled, I felt anxious and adrift. And I wasn’t alone. my friends, they struggled with this too. Eventually, I decided to go to graduate school for positive psychology to learn what truly makes people happy. But what I discovered there changed my life. The data showed that chasing happiness can make people unhappy. And what really struck me was this. The suicide rate has been rising around the world, and it recently reached a 30-year high in America. Even though life is getting objectively better by nearly every conceivable standard, more people feel hopeless, depressed and alone. There an emptiness gnawing away at people and you don have to be clinically depressed to feel it Sooner or later I think we all wonder is this all there is And according to the research what predicts this despair is not a lack of happiness. It’s a lack of something else, a lack of having meaning in life. But that raised some questions for me. is there more to life than being happy? And what’s the difference between being happy and having meaning in life? Many psychologists define happiness as a state of comfort and ease, feeling good in the moment.

【TED演讲】必看100场TED演讲合集 - 【TED演讲】爱运动的人更聪明，更健康！

视频信息

What if I told you there was something that you can do right now that would have an immediate positive benefit for your brain, including your mood and your focus? And what if I told you that same thing could actually last a long time and protect your brain from different conditions like depression, Alzheimer’s disease or dementia? Would you do it? Yes, I am talking about the powerful effects of physical activity that is simply moving your body, has immediate, long-lasting, and protective benefits for your brain, and that can last for the rest of your life. So what I want to do today is tell you a story about how I used my deep understanding of neuroscience, as a professor of neuroscience, to essentially do an experiment on myself, in which I discovered the science underlying why exercise is the most transformative thing that you can do for your brain today Now as a neuroscientist I know that our brains that is the thing in our head right now that is the most complex structure known to humankind But it one thing to talk about the brain and it’s another to see it. So here is a real preserved human brain, and it’s going to illustrate two key areas that we’re going to talk about today. The first is the prefrontal cortex, right behind your forehead, critical for things like decision-making, focus, attention, and your personality.

【TED演讲】必看100场TED演讲合集 - 【TED演讲】成功人士是如何应对挑战的？

视频信息

Welcome Anjali, I’m so glad you’re here with us today. Thank you Stephanie, it is great to be here. At Vimeo, you lead a workforce of 1,300 people worldwide. You have creatives, you have finance people, you have technologists. So I’m going to start with a really easy question. What was it like to manage this diverse workforce through a global pandemic, a racial reckoning, and a very fraught return to office? Oh, it was a breeze, Stephanie, no. It was really challenging. And I think the only constant has been change. And as a leader, you obviously have a workforce that’s looking for certainty. And they’re looking to control what’s happening around them. And I think what we all found as leaders, no matter what company you were responsible for, was that you couldn’t offer certainty and you couldn’t always control the environment and the things around you. And so, you know, for me, it was really about agility. How do we stay flexible as a team How do we communicate in real time and keep people informed as we try and move through things And then also just how do we lead with more humanity You know for Vimeo one of the things I’ve really learned over the last few years is we each experience the world so differently. We have employees who are remote. We have an incredible team in Ukraine.
